Family Vacation Games: Go fish
Go Fish is a fun card game that can be played by even the youngest player. Perfect for a family vacation on Pender Island.
It’s a simple game that shouldn’t take much time, but if you want something more challenging it’s easy to create some variations to the basic rules.
You will need:
A standard deck of cards without the jokers
2 to 6 players
Set up:
Choose a dealer to shuffle and hand out the cards
If there are 2 or 3 players: 7 cards each
If there are 4 or more players: 5 cards each
Place the remaining cards face down on a pile, this is the “fish pond”
How to play:
The game starts with one player, the requester, asking another player for cards to match his hand. For example, if the requester has two queens, he should ask the other player for a queen to complete the set of 4 queens.
If the other player has the cards the requester asks for, he must give them to the requester.
If the other player doesn’t have the cards the requester wants, he can tell the requester to “Go Fish”. The requester then takes one card from the fish pond and the other player becomes the new requester.
Whenever all four cards of a set (e.g. four aces) are collected, the player should put them face down in front of him/her.
The first person to have only complete sets and no single cards left is the winner.
